What is emotional freedom?

Hello,

One of the main questions I hear is about emotional freedom.

  • What does it mean?
  • And How can I get it?

It's a commonly misunderstood term. Many people think that it's getting to a point where you don't have 'negative' emotions. And being in a place where there are only 'positive' emotions. 

This is not true.

All emotions are here to serve us. All are here for a purpose. All have a message for us. With this perspective, we can drop the labels of positive and negative and begin to welcome all emotions like they are friends. 

Emotional freedom means that you can accept, welcome and release all your emotions. Even the heavy ones. They come and go, like clouds in the sky. 

So why is that some emotions stick around for days, weeks or even years?

That's because we hold onto them. We hold on by resisting and suppressing them.

By learning to release the resistance and suppression and finding the courage to look at them, we can let go. Then an emotion such as sadness or anxiety can pass through quickly. 

Because we are the ones holding onto our emotions, we also have the power to let go. 

It takes courage, time, practice and awareness to find emotional freedom. You will still continue to experience the full repertoire of emotions that your heart can play, but you will no longer need to resist, suppress or fear them. You can simply let emotions come and go. In time, the reservoir of suppressed emotions in your heart will pass through and you will begin to feel much more joyful and free. 

You find that you have the power to release anxiety, depression, stress, unworthiness, and overwhelm.

And even if they return, you have the resilience and inner tools to deal with them. 

These are the fruits of this inner work.... the fruits of emotional freedom.

Plus you will probably get a sounder nights sleep.
