How to Let Go

anxiety depression emotional freedom emotions overwhelm Jul 16, 2021

Hello,

As human beings, we are capable of experiencing a vast spectrum of emotions. From the darkest and heaviest of guilt and shame, to the lightest and brightest of love and joy.

We tend to like the lighter feelings and dislike the heavier feelings. We tend to try and hold onto the positive emotions and push away the negative emotions.

But this holding on and pushing away of emotions causes inner blockages, stopping the emotions from flowing through.

Hafiz called your heart a 'thousand stringed instrument,' because this is where we tend to feel our emotions.

Sometimes, our hearts can be closed and hurt. Sometimes there can be an unbearable tension and stress in the centre of our chests.

When this happens, we can deal with it in two ways.

1. Unconsciously (avoiding it and distracting ourselves)

2. Consciously (meeting the hurt head on)

The first way causes more trouble and disturbance. The second leads to healing, freedom and peace.

Whenever you feel an inner disturbance, this is a golden opportunity to release another inner blockage.

Each time you let go, you are that much lighter.

Invitation

Next time you are feeling your heart is hurting, or your dealing with a difficult emotion, try this process....

  • Find some time to sit down and close your eyes
  • Allow your attention to drop down into your body, to the centre of the hurt
  • Notice if the pain has a colour or a shape within it
  • Breath deeply into and out of the centre of the hurt
  • Lean into it with acceptance and love
  • Gently invite your heart to open by asking it, 'dear heart, will you open once more.'

This way takes courage, but it is worth the effort as it leads to freedom.

Through this practice of meeting the pain consciously with acceptance, awareness and love, you can let your heart open and allow the hurt to be released.

Your natural energy, known as shakti, can then rise up through your heart. This shakti is pure joy, light and ecstasy.

It can be useful to be guided through this process by a trained counsellor.

If you need guidance through this, you can book a 1-1 session with me here. The sessions are via zoom, so you can tune in from wherever you are.

Wishing you every happiness,
