💜 Healing Shame
Dear Soul,
Todays One Whole Being Podcast is a topic that is deeply personal and often overlooked: Healing Shame.
Shame is a complex emotion that can weigh heavily on our hearts and minds, affecting our self-esteem, relationships, and overall well-being. However, I believe that by acknowledging and releasing our feelings of shame, we can find self worth and wholeness.
Shame often stems from feelings of inadequacy, unworthiness, or the belief that we are fundamentally flawed. It may be triggered by past experiences, societal expectations, ancestral trauma, or internalised beliefs about ourselves. Whatever its origins, shame can have a profound impact on our mental and emotional health, leading to self-doubt, isolation, and a sense of disconnect from others.
But here's the thing: shame thrives in darkness and secrecy. It loses its power when brought into the light of awareness and compassion. By courageously acknowledging our feelings of shame and sharing them with trusted others, we begin the process of healing.
So, where do we start? First and foremost, it's important to recognize that feeling shame is a normal part of being human. We all experience moments of vulnerability and self-doubt; it's what makes us human. Instead of judging ourselves for feeling shame, let's practice self-compassion and understanding. Let's treat ourselves with the same kindness and empathy that we would offer to a friend in need.
Secondly, let's challenge the beliefs and narratives that fuel our feelings of shame. Are these beliefs based on objective truths, or are they distorted perceptions formed by past experiences or societal norms? By questioning these beliefs and reframing our inner dialogue, we can begin to cultivate a more compassionate and empowering relationship with ourselves.
Finally, let's remember that healing shame is a journey, not a destination. It takes time, patience, and self-compassion to unravel the layers of shame that we may have accumulated over the years. But with each step we take towards healing, we reclaim a sense of wholeness and authenticity that is our birthright as human beings. Each time we let go, we are that much lighter.
If you're struggling with feelings of shame and would like support, know that you're not alone.
